knitting books

I love books about knitting, don’t you? So many patterns, techniques, stitches and information to inspire one’s creative muse. I tend to prefer reference and technique books, although I have a fair few pattern books as well.

There are three books that never get put on the shelf, they are always beside my knitting chair because I refer to them often. My favorite is The Big Book of Knitting by Katharina Buss. I always open this book first when I have a technique question. I like the explanations and I find the illustrations very helpful. The other two are Vogue Knitting, and Knitting in the Old Way.
Other favorites are Maggie Righetti’s Knitting in Plain English, which made me laugh and taught me a lot about knitting; and Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Knitting Without Tears which was nothing short of inspiring.

And then there is Stephanie Pearl-McPhee. The first book-book-book was one of the funniest I ever read. I’m looking forward to reading the second.

Oh, I think the second Harlot book is funnier than the first and I didn't think that was possible. You'll really enjoy it.

We have very similar taste in knitting books! I absolutely love Knitting in Plain English, it too makes me laugh while filling me with useful tid-bits. I've not seen The Big Book of Knitting and will look for it the next time I'm at my LYS.
